Kalahari is the country's largest indoor water park. We have been to Great Wolf Lodge before, which is similar, and enjoyed it. This time I figured we might as well go for the biggest (and hopefully the best).
We got there and we were immediately impressed by the size. This place was massive!
I didn't take many pictures for obvious reason (wet + camera = not good), but I assure you we had a great time. We were there at one of the busiest times of the year and we were not disappointed.
All the kids tried the big slides. Nicholas was fine going on them, but Ella and Jack were timid. Ella wanted to do it, but she was a little scared. Jack didn't even want to do it. He cried and we had to convince him to try it and tell him if he didn't like it he didn't have to do it again. He got off the first big slide and said he didn't like it, but he had a secret little smile on his face. Still, he didn't want to go back and I didn't make him.
We had a lot of fun in the wave pool. It was a good place for EVERYONE to enjoy.
Ella and Jack were required to wear lifejackets since they are under 48 inches tall. It put my mind at ease just a little. I knew if I lot site of them for a second or two that they'd be ok.
We also enjoyed the hot tub a LOT. I'm always freezing and being in the water inside is no fun. As soon as I got out of the water, I would start to freeze. So we'd hit the hot tub in between doing each thing. I loved it because the hot tub was outside and it was felt so good with the cool air hitting my face and the warm water keeping me toasty.
If you're thinking about doing a water park, then I HIGHLY recommend Kalahari. I have only been to Great Wolf Lodge in Texas (which is bigger than the one in Ohio), but I would say if you're trying to decide between Kalahari and Great Wolf, you should definitely pick Kalahari. Having said that, the food at Kalahari is terrible. Just BAD, BAD, BAD. I have no idea about Great Wolf Lodge because we never ate there. The food isn't the reason for going, however, so I wasn't at all disappointed with our stay. We'd definitely go back.
Now for the Debbie Downer portion of our post:
I was shocked and appalled by the number of unfit people at this resort. I don't mean to be rude and disrespectful and I understand that weight is a struggle for so many people (myself included), but the obesity I witnessed was unsettling. It was particularly hard to see so many overweight children, sad even. I don't know when it became acceptable for Americans to kill themselves slowly with food and why adults would allow their children to become this way. It breaks my heart.
I felt so utterly self conscious the whole time I was at Kalahari. Now, I understand I am not "fat" and certainly not obese, but I have issues with my body (we all know this). Right now I'm pretty "heavy" (for me) and I'm not feeling so hot about myself. The cellulite. Dear lord who invented this? That person should be shot. It's disgusting. My cellulite is bad and it's embarrassing and I feel like everyone is staring at it. I hate, hate, hate, that I let the thoughts about cellulite consume me. Anytime I was walking around, I was thinking about it.
I also think that I'm being judged more harshly (by who I don't know) because I do work out so much. Ok not lately, but you know what I mean. I feel like people will look at me and say I should look a lot better seeing how I workout so much. Trust me, I put in the hours and I feel like I should look better than I do with all the time I spend working out so I can see where you'd think that too. Darn you food for being so delicious.
My solution for this problem? I came home and spent $200 on bathing suits that have SHORTS as their bottoms. Problem solved. If it were only that simple!
