But anyway... Yesterday I was a little down in the dumps. You might have read about it. I was in a lot of pain and dealing with a sick kid and just didn't feel like doing anything. I didn't even want to cook dinner. So, I did what any normal person would do and complained on Facebook, asking for the dinner fairy to show up at my door.
Everyone mocked me letting me know there was no such thing and pretty much directed me not to hold my breath waiting around. Well, I bet y'all don't believe in Santa Claus either. Well I do and look what showed up on my doorstep.
That's right you non-believers, the Dinner Fairy does exist. I was sitting on the big chair, cuddling with my sick kiddo when I got a call from a blocked number on my cell phone. I found it very odd but, something inside me told me to answer it. When I did, there was a very small voice on the other end (very clever fairy using your daughter) telling me to look on the porch. When I went to the porch I found my wish had been granted. Dinner had arrived. (Along with banana therapy. How funny is that?)
Not just any dinner either, a full dish of lasagna, bread, salad with lots of yummy toppings, AND dessert. This is one serious dinner fairy.
I could hardly contain my excitement when I saw the salad bar. Hello black olives and avocado! How did the Dinner Fairy know?
The point of this post, however, is not to rub it in to all you doubters that there is a fairy. The point is to remind you how important random acts of kindness are.
I have had a rough couple of days. I realize things in life could be MUCH, MUCH worse, but I was physically feeling down and also caring for a sick kid. Although today was much better, I was still absolutely overjoyed when I got the package on my doorstep.
I mean seriously, I'm sure all you moms and cooks out there know how hard it is to get a meal on the table that everyone will eat and enjoy. Some days it's just so tiring. My efforts are most definitely under appreciated by my children, as they rather eat pizza or mac n cheese every day of their lives. Some days this leaves me feeling like I really just don't want to cook at all. Either that, or I'd like to have someone cook for ME sometime.
I wish my fairy could have seen my reaction when I opened the container and found my surprise. I was overjoyed and completely appreciative. I would eat this meal and I promise you there was not a peep out of me complaining. Just the opposite actually.
So I say to you Dinner Fairy-- You are a very special person, whoever you are (as if I don't know) and I can't express enough gratitude to show you how I feel. You see my blog friends, this fairy is merely an acquaintance. Not to downplay our friendship because she is truly a sweet person, but we are friends through our children and never done anything outside of school activities and birthday parties together.
So you see, it really was a random act of kindness. Something she didn't have to do, but something that made a huge impact. It reminded me to think of other people, that no matter what is going on in my life, there is someone else out there who may need someone to be kind to them. The Dinner Fairy is someone we can all learn from.
Thank you dinner fairy, for dinner, and for reminding me how important it is to show the everyone around us that we care. Your thoughtfulness will not be soon forgotten.
