My dad definitely inspired me to run. He never really talked to me about running (and he didn't do it while I was growing up), but him starting later in life showed me it was NEVER too late.
In college, sadly I never really ran. I had a friend I worked with who ran 5 miles a day most days of the week. I remember being in awe of her and thinking it was something I could never do. I'm still actually in awe because she did it then and still does it now. I often wonder how I would be different now if I had started way back then.
I'm a triathlete and enjoy both swimming and biking. I wish I would dedicate more of myself to the other parts of triathlon like I do running. What I need to do is just sign up for a big race and start training. Once I get through the NYC, I think that's EXACTLY what I'll do. Once and for all!
My running definitely helps me be better at other things. I know I'm stronger now than I ever have been and you can't tell me it's not from all the miles I run. I went out and rode 50 miles on my bike yesterday when the longest ride I had done lately was 30 miles over 7 months ago. I was pretty proud of myself.
Running is becoming one of my greatest loves. I never thought I'd see the day where I'd crave a run. Most days I actually look forward to my run whereas before I'd dread it (although I'd feel great afterwards).
I hate treadmills. This is no secret! I can't remember the last time I ran on the treadmill. I will avoid it at all costs. That's why living in a warm climate is so wonderful. There is hardly a time where I'm forced indoors due to weather. If anything it's too hot!
Two years ago, I thought I was in the best shape of my life and PR'd on the Pittsburgh Half Marathon course finishing in 2:09. Shortly thereafter I crashed on my bike broke my shoulder and wrist. The recovery took a long time as did returning to my prior physical condition. I feel like I'm back and better than ever and set another Half Marathon PR in Pittsburgh in May of this year, finishing in 2:07.
When I was working I rarely worked out on work days. I value sleep (don't want to wake early) and by the end of a 10 hour day felt too exhausted to workout. I don't know how people work full-time (or part-time for that matter) and still manage to fit it all in. Those people are definitely my inspiration.
I love hearing a song on the radio that's on my playlist. Immediately I'm transported to a time where I'm running and kicking booty. It's funny how just a song can take you somewhere. Conversely if I'm not feeling a run and a great booty kicking song comes on, I can immediately be converted to a better mood.
Racing makes me stay focused. It causes me to really evaluate what I am able to do and not settle. If I register for a race (and plan to race) then I make sure I do the work to give it my best effort. Granted I don't race every race and that's ok too because there's just something about the race atmosphere that invigorates me.
