First Quarter Review 2012
Posted on 18:43 by Unknown
Can you believe it is the end of March already? Me neither. Where does the time go? One quarter of 2012 is OVER just like that. Here's a look back at the first quarter of 2012.
We had our first visitor of 2012 when my friend Candace come to visit.
Followed not too long after by my sister Amy and my niece Abbey's visit.
I slipped on a banana and PR'd at 3M Half Marathon.
We visited Great Wolf Lodge on Winter Break.
A group of great mother runners honored Sherry Arnold.
Gran Gran came to visit and spoiled us rotten.
I ran the Livestrong Austin Half Marathon and had a FABULOUS time.
We enjoyed our school's spring carnival.
Ran the Statesman Capital 10K and almost died.
Ella had a rodeo day at school.
Our friends Jennifer and Steve visited and enjoyed spring break with us.
We finally got to see the real Austin Rodeo.
We took a day trip to San Antonio.
What a busy, adventurous start to 2012. I'm sure the rest of 2012 will bring as many activities, adventures, and ultimately, memories.
Thanks for the memories, first quarter 2012.

On the Horizon
Posted on 18:46 by Unknown
Sometimes I think I should have named by blog something else, cause let's face it, there ain't a whole lot of swimmin' and bikin' up in here. But, if I'm being honest, I really love Triathlon and I'm not sure why I don't swim and bike as much as I should. In fact, just yesterday a few friends and I were talking about which we preferred, swimming, running or biking and I mentioned that biking might be a little pinch up in my book.
It sure does take me a long time to get to the point doesn't it? Well the point is, I'm definitely going to get some other events on the books other than just running. I've been meaning to do it for awhile and then a few things happened.
First, George sent me an email yesterday with a list of all the upcoming biking events in the Austin area. We've been talking about doing an event together and he wanted me to choose one. So today I browsed the list and came up with the Texas 4000 Atlas Ride. This ride starts in Cedar Park (less than a mile from my house) and ends 50 to 70 miles later (depending on the route we choose) in Lampasas, TX. I'm leaning toward the 50 miler, but haven't ruled out the 70 yet. The good thing is, George and I are going to ride and do this TOGETHER!
Then a little birdie (her name's Kelley) Facebooked me about an upcoming Tri and asked if I wanted to do it. So that little birdie and I will be doing a little Triathlon.
The CapTexTri to be exact. I'll be doing the sprint distance (wanted to do the Olympic but just don't think I'll be ready). The sprint is a 750M swim, 20K (12 mile) bike and 5K (3.1 mile) run. I think this will be a great way to kick of the Triathlon season as there are a few more I really want to do (sprints) and I'll be looking for that Olympic distance sometime in the near future when the right race presents itself.
So there you have it. Two events. Neither a stand alone run. Get excited. There's finally going to be some swimming, biking and running goin' on!
P.S. Uh yeah just realized the Tri is on 5/28 and the Ride on 6/2. Oh dear!

Bright Eyes and Bluebonnets
Posted on 18:24 by Unknown
Did you know that the bluebonnet is the Texas state flower? Well then you apparently don't live in Texas. It seems everything in Texas is not only bigger, but people take more pride in all things associated with Texas. That includes the beautiful Texas bluebonnet. Last year spring brought about very little rain and, although everyone talked about the bluebonnets, I never got to see them in full swing. I still was able to snap a few pictures with Ella and Jack on a jog one day.
As you might have suspected (since I'm talking about them), the bluebonnets are in full bloom right now and more beautiful than ever. So when I saw Bright Eyes Photography was offering "mini sessions" taken in the bluebonnets, I jumped at the chance to have my kids' pictures taken. The ladies behind Bright Eyes Photography, Shannon and Jennifer, are an extremely talented duo and I love their work.
I wanted my little piece of Texas to take wherever the roads may take me. We might not live in Texas forever (then again we might) so I wanted to have a lasting memory. I can NOT wait to see the results. Here's a sneak peak at the ladies doing their work.
So if you live in the Austin area, feel free to give Shannon and Jennifer a call for your own little Bluebonnet session (or other portrait session). You can check out all their work on the the Bright Eyes Website, so you don't just have to take my word for it. While I didn't receive anything for writing this post (I'm not that cool) I can get a little discount if you tell them I sent you. So feel free to drop my name if you give them a call. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Spring Carnival
Posted on 18:28 by Unknown
With all the happenings of the weekend, my illness and exhaustion, I never blogged about the Spring Carnival at the kids' school on Friday night.
We started off at Lucky Key, where the kids try to unlock the door to a VERY CHEAP prize. Not complaining, just sayin. They both won so...
We weren't there more than 5 minutes before Ella saw all the things that were available to pretty herself including hair feathers, nail paining and face painting.
Jack partook in the face painting as well and prettied himself with a fire engine and a penguin (random).
In case you're wondering where Nicholas is, I allowed him (against my better judgement) to have free reign of the carnival for 45 minutes. I gave him a meet up time and allowed him to go with a few of his friends. It made me feel uneasy, but I have to let him grow up. Baby steps.
Anyway, Ella and Jack tried the Bungee Run. Basically, you are attached to a bungee cord and run as fast as you can and try to go further than your opponent.
Some were better than others.
Jack couldn't wait to ride the train (as it was pretty much the ONLY thing he did last year) and it didn't disappoint.
We met back up with Nicholas and Jack enjoyed a bunch of time in the bounce houses while Nicholas and Ella tried the hamster balls. I thought Ella would have a hard time, but once again she surprised me. She did great (as did Nicholas).
We did a little golfing and George played with his phone,
and played with his phone,
picked his nose,
and played with his phone. Glad we brought him along!
Ella loves to hula hoop and she's pretty good at it.
Her brothers aren't much of hip wigglers, but they were still able to give it a whirl.
It was funny to watch Ella attempt multiple hoops at one time. She almost had it.
We finished off the night with a little fashion photo booth.
Poor Ella, she wasn't into it at all!
We had a GREAT evening at the carnival, it's nights like these, I think my kids will always remember.
