In high school I never played an organized sport. Ok I was a cheerleader, but at my high school that was just pom poms and screaming. I actually NEVER played an organized sport and was never part of a team. Maybe that's why I always like getting my way now. Hmmm
When I was college I could have used running as a great stress reliever. I don't like to say I have regrets in life, but one thing I wish I would have done differently is picking up running a LOT earlier in life.
In August 2009, I started training for my first long distance running event (a half marathon). I was so utterly intimidated by the 13.1 distance.
Two and a half years later I have run SEVEN half marathons and I think I've officially declared it as my favorite distance to race. It's possible that I'm becoming a half marathon addict.
In January, I ran my best half marathon yet finishing in 2:08:33. I know I've got it in me to be better and I will get a new PR this year.
My husband, has never run a half marathon. In fact, I think the furthest distance he ever ran was during the Tough Mudder when he ran 10 miles. He doesn't have any desire to do any distance running and I think he's content being my cheerleader. (I like that.)
I sing to the black eyed peas when I run. Who wouldn't get pumped up to hearing the words, I've got a feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night. I also love Kanye West Stronger and Xtina Fighter.
Running changes pretty much everything. I'm not the same person I was before I became a runner. I know that might sound ridiculous, but it's true. My outlook on a lot of things have changed including the way I view my body. I'm still a work in progress, however.
People ask me why I like to run and I think they're surprised when I say I don't. Don't get me wrong, there are days when I enjoy it, but what I enjoy most is the feeling I get afterwards. I know of the runner's high and that's what keeps me coming back.
