Birthday season is upon us. Over the next 5 weeks, 4 of our 5 family members will have birthdays (George's is in January). Even though Nicholas' birthday isn't until next week, his party was today. We decided to have a pool party at our YMCA. We rented the pool for a private pool party from 6:00 to 9:00. We decided to just run with it and make "pool" our theme.
I found a cake I liked and asked my friend Kelley if she wanted to make it. I made the cakes for the kids last year and even though I do think it's fun, it an unnecessary source of stress for me. So I passed the Tirch cake making torch on to Kelley and she recreated EXACTLY what I had envisioned. Scratch that, she did a better job. I mean seriously, look at this snorkel cake. Is it awesome or what?
I really had a fun time running away with the theme. Since the party started a little later I decided to NOT serve dinner and just do snacks. I let everyone know on the invite that cake and snacks would be served. Still, I think some kids were looking for "real food" and I felt kind of bad.
Regardless this is what we had.
Pool Water (blue gatorade)
Take a Dip (french onion dip)
Fish Food: Trail Mix
Pool Noodles: Rainbow Licorice
Beach Balls: Cheese balls
Life Savers: Life Savers
Tropical Fish: Swedish Fish
Fish: Goldfish crackers and pretzel goldfish
Scuba Soda (forgot to take a pic at the party of these. They were so cute.)
I think it turned out really cute, but I'm not sure anyone really appreciated it all. I mean seriously do 9 year old boys care? Oh well, I know Nicholas loved it and that's REALLY all that matters.
Another shot of the cake because it's just too cute.
Water Cooler.
Thank you to these lovely ladies for helping me get set up. If you know me, then you know this sort of thing is a source of stress. I'm anxious until everything is "perfect". All these ladies jumped right in and helped and it was greatly appreciated!
The reason no one paid attention to the food was because they all were having so much fun in the pool. I bought squirt guns and pens (what Jack has below), pool noodles, beach balls and a few rafts. The pool was filled with a ton of stuff and I think (hope?) that made it fun.
Ok, ok fine they did enjoy some of the food.
But clearly it was the swimming that took the cake.
Cake? Did someone say cake? Happy birthday to you.
Happy Birthday dear Nicholas.
Happy birthday to you.
Nicholas told me it was a great party and I think he really had a fun time with a GREAT group of friends.
And, of course, his WONDERFUL family.
Happy Birthday Party Day Nicholas. We love you!
