Dear Jack:
Here you go again getting older. I know it's so cliche, but I can't help but say it. How did you grow up so fast? Especially you-- you're my baby. Weren't you supposed to stay young forever? I guess it's just wishful thinking because you continue to get older and wiser each day.
You can't even begin to imagine how you can brighten my day. There's just something about your disposition that makes me happy. It doesn't matter if you're happy, sad or mad, you always find a way to make me smile just by being you. It's hard to explain really, but you have a way of making people laugh and not on purpose really.
You are really ALL boy. You've learned so many things at a young age due to having two older siblings and there is nothing that Nicholas does that you think you can't do. You love to play all sports, but you particularly love hockey, soccer and baseball.
You are so smart. Like scary smart. Not in a book smart, I know my ABCs and 123s, but in a street smart kind of way. You pick up on things so easily and have a keen sense for minute details. You definitely think outside the box. You have a way of figuring things out. I always tease and say that one day you'll be explaining the ways of the world to your BIG brother. You'll be saying things like, "Dude it's ok not to listen to mom every once in awhile." Your big brother would NEVER do that (it's my world let me think it).
You've become such a lover of all things outdoors. I lovingly refer to it as "hillbilly" but I'm sure there's a more appropriate term. You love all things camo and enjoy so many outdoor shows on TV including Swamp People and Rattlesnake Republic to name a few. You are intrigued by hunting and fishing and all things outdoors. I know you're dying to go hunting with Daddy someday.
When you find something that makes you happy you become fixated on it. If you decide you like yellow Sponge Bob sweatbands then you're going to wear them all day every day no matter what. Usually each thing is just a phase, but you will keep it going for a week at a time. If you find the need to have something you will NOT let up until you get it. Not in a bad, disrespectful kind of way, but a inquisitive way. You'll ask a million times how you could possibly maybe get this thing and when it could possibly maybe happen and then eventually wear me down. It makes me laugh more than anything.
You work on your own agenda. It's your world and we all just live in it. I don't mean to paint a picture that you're rude or disrespectful, that certainly is not it, but you do like things on your own terms. So there is often, one more sip, or one more trip up the stairs to get the Sponge Bob sweat bands or one last jump on the couch before you stop. You will take it just to the limit right BEFORE you get in trouble. If you think you've gone too far you just flash you head tilt and a smile. Gets me every time.
I take that back. There is something better. You are the best cuddler and you give the best kisses. When you are sweet you are so sweet. I just love being loved by you. You're such a special little boy and I'm so glad God blessed me with you, my sweet baby!
You're not a baby anymore, you're FIVE! You're still my baby and no one will have to know if we cuddle on the couch and watch Duck Dynasty of course.
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you

Mommy
