First:
We've made an addition to the Tirch family. I know everyone thinks I'm crazy for getting a puppy, but I promised my kids and I don't break promises. When I told my kids we were leaving Texas to move back to Pittsburgh, they were not happy to say the least. To make the transition a little easier, I promised them that when we moved into our house, I would buy them a puppy. In addition, I always said when Nicholas was 10 I'd grant their wishes of getting a puppy. Now was the time. They are at great ages to be a BIG help.
So blog world, meet my newest child. This is Sidney (named after Sidney Crosby of course).
She's a Shorkie (a Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier mix). My kids are in total love with her. She's definitely a lot of work, but I think she loves us and I hope we're making her happy. I'm sure you'll see a lot more of her around here. One things for sure, she's awfully darn cute.
Second:
I've been doing a lot of thinking and have been feeling pretty sad about having missed out on so much this year due to my injuries and surgery. I had planned to do an Half Ironman with Tracey in September, but obviously I wasn't able to do that. So I signed up for the Rock n Roll Cleveland Half Marathon, The Quick Chick 10K and I even registered for 2 bike events (Pedal Pittsburgh and The Hilly Hundred), but all that didn't make me stop mourning the loss of triathlon.
You see triathlon really is my favorite. It is my blog name after all. And I decided it's about time my blogged lived up to its name. I realized I hadn't missed out on Triathlon season. Sure I couldn't exactly be ready for a Half Ironman this year, but I could still do something. So I've decided. I'm going to do the Olympic Distance Mighty Morraine Man Triathlon on September 21st. That's a .93 mile swim, 25 mile bike and 6.2 mile run.
I've never done an Olympic Distance Tri before. I'm scared and excited all at the same time. It may not be my best race, but it'll be the best I can do that day. I promise you that... and I don't break promises.
