Last year I managed to run 938 miles. I'm pretty sure I logged all my runs on Dailymile and even if I didn't it I probably only missed a few. I was so close to 1000 miles. I wish I would have paid attention a little sooner and maybe I could have done something to make it to 1000.
Biking was pathetic. I have a feeling I didn't log ALL my workout, but even still I logged less than 200 miles biking. YIKES. Don't even get me started on the swimming, I think I swam a total of 5 times last year and I did 3 triathlons. You do the math.
So..... Based on last year's training results I've set the following goals.
Running: Run 1000 miles. Actually I think I'll make it 1012 in 2012. That breaks down to be 19.46 miles per week. I don't know what I'll be training for, but I'm sure it will involve running so 20 miles per week seems doable especially if I do one long run a week.
I'm still looking to set a 5K PR. My current record is 29:29 and I hope I can smash that record and run somewhere around 28:00.
Part of my 2012 goals include participating in a triathlon that's longer than a sprint distance. I'd really love to do a half ironman, but I honestly don't know if it will work out. So I need to get at LEAST an Olympic Distance triathlon on the books.
In order to participate in any triathlon, however, I need to step up my swimming and my biking. Like I said, I've been really slacking in each area so I need to set some swimming and biking goals too.
Swimming: Improve upon my swimming training from last year. Number of training swims last year = 2. Yes you read that correctly, I swam 2 times last year for my triathlon training. Clearly I was able to muddle through my triathlons, but that isn't going to be good enough if I'm doing longer distance triathlons. I really do enjoy swimming, but I have a hard time convincing myself to get in the water. It's not convenient and I don't like being cold, but I know those are just excuses.
Biking: I'm not really sure how I should set my biking goals as it seems harder for me to get out on my bike. I think it's because I really don't like to go alone and I haven't found anyone to ride with consistently. It's up to me to accomplish my goals so I'm just going to have to learn to ride alone. I'm considering cycling miles as miles earned in spin class or out on the road. Since I'm going for 1000 (actually 1012) running miles why not try to hit 1000 biking miles too. 20 miles a week (that's basically one ride).
So there you have it.
Swim: More than 2 training swims. Ha! I'd like to go once a week, but I just know that won't happen so even once a month would improve upon things.
Bike: Cycle either in spin or on the road 1000 miles
Run: Run 1012 miles and PR in a 5K (I'm hoping to improve my times in other distances too, but decided to focus on just one race this year. Maybe I'll PR and then PR again.)
Last year was the year of races. My goal was to run 12 races in 12 months. This year is I'm focused on spreading my workouts over all three events and not focusing so much on one thing. 2012 miles (1000 biking and 1012 running) in 2012.
