I slept like a rock until I heard the pitter patter of little feet moving to the "potty" above our room. I rolled over squeaking open one eye to look at the clock. 5:22 it read. Meaning only one thing, there was still more sleep to be had. It wasn't long until the pitter patter became stomps and there wasn't just one set, but three. I knew the time had come and at 7:03 I rolled, very sleepily, out of bed.
The kids waited at the top of the stairs as they had been told. I'm sure it seemed like an eternity to them to wait for us to turn on the tree lights and get ready with the video recorder and camera. Eventually, we were ready and we opened the gates and allowed them to flood into the living room.
Nicholas ran in first, but my camera was on the wrong setting and he is nothing but a blur. Next came Ella and she bolted right for her American Girl doll. It was love at first sight.
She has nurtured that baby since the moment they met. She let me know that she would be a good mommy. I didn't have any doubts.
She named her Bella and I think their love is mutual.
For whatever reason, the kids went for their stockings first where Ella found Soul Surfer. She has been begging for this movie ever since we rented it from the Redbox. If you haven't seen it, you should watch it. It's a great family movie, but it's just a great story of inspiration for ANYONE.
Nicholas cracked me up because I kept trying to capture candid moments of him opening his gifts, but he was into making a display and smiling for the camera. Here he is proud of his NHL 12 , which I'm pretty sure he has yet to play.
Both Ella and Nicholas got Heelys, which left Jack feeling very left out. It was hard enough letting go to get these for Ella, let alone for Jack. I'm sure Nicholas' pair will eventually be his hand me downs. Until then no Heelys for Jack. Ella and Nicholas are starting to get the hang of it and are really enjoying them.
Why, oh why, oh why did
Try as I might, I can't take the country out of my husband, which means only one thing, I couldn't take the country out of Christmas. Lord help me, and Bambi!
It didn't take long to turn a room full of packages into a pile of paper and rubble.
But along the way, there were many happy faces,
many dreams fulfilled,
and new found love.
When it was all said and done, I had three very happy, content, little children thankful for what the day had brought them and two very happy, content parents thankful for what the Lord had given them.
Not pictured: countless hours spent undoing all the wire twist ties, packages, taped boxes, and other nonsense CLEARLY needed to wrap up a $12 toy. As my mother always says, "Never use your teeth as tools."
Merry Christmas Everyone.
