So we laced up our skates and headed under the disco
This was Isabel's first time roller skating and she really took right to it, with a little help. It wasn't long and she was off skating by herself.
The boys didn't need any help at all.
Some people are naturals, seemingly floating across the rink.
Others had, what seems to me, an unfair advantage. Sure I've ben skating for over 30 years, but this punk is low to the ground and he plays hockey so I'm screaming injustice on the rink. Whatever.
Nicholas blowing away the competition in the 11 and under race
Even the four year old was out there on his own ripping it up.
The thing about roller skating is, it takes you back to another time (it does for me anyway). It takes me back to 1980 in the driveway with my sister or being in 2nd grade on Neville Island at the skating rink. No matter when it was, it takes me back to my childhood.
I saw a lot of people out there on four wheels who were probably taken back to similar times. We'd give each other a glance, knowing that if it were 1982 we'd be sporting leg warmers and leaving in our jelly shoes.
For some people, however, their childhood didn't involve roller skating and that either left them on the sidelines WATCHING all the other skaters or looking a little like this....
Apparently they don't roller skate in Honduras, or if they do then the style is bending your knees and sticking your butt WAY out! We all laughed so hard we nearly peed our pants.
To Bianca's credit, she has NEVER been on roller skates and by the end she was doing really great.
So what if we were slower than a four year old, we were out there having the time of our lives.
We spent three hours roller skating, dancing (some more than others *cough cough* Nicholas) and laughing all the way. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun. Maybe it was 1984!
