You see, we always spent Thanksgiving with my dad when we were little. It was our Christmas (kind of). We always spent the holiday at my Aunt Susan's (my dad's sister) and with my cousins. For as long as I can remember it was always that way. We've tried hard to keep the tradition going throughout our adult years, but some years have suffered.

It was really nice to get to see everyone. I wish there were more opportunities throughout the year to spend time together. I hope they'll come visit me in Pittsburgh. Hint hint!
Another thing we always did with my dad in Indianapolis was to go to the Children's museum. The Indianapolis Children's museum is one of the biggest and nicest in the country. I have so many fun memories of being there as a kid. I don't think I've been since I was 10 years old. I was excited to see if it was as great as I remembered.
We started off at the Dinosaur Dig Site.
The kids were pretty good archeologists digging for bones and such.
Then Ella tried out being a dinosaur herself.
The trains were one of my fondest memories from my childhood. I remember the detail of the miniature train section and actually being able to get on the caboose.
Pretty much the trains were just as I remembered.
I don't remember getting to sell tickets (which was a big hit).
But riding in the caboose was still available. So fun!
There were new things though. Things I never got to do as a kid. I really want to suit up and go scubaing. Humph!
We set off next for "Treasures of the Earth" where there were a lot of things to dig up again. Jack braved it this time.
Ella was a little disappointed that the Barbie exhibit had been replaced by the HotWheels exhibit, but once she was in there I don't think she minded as much.
Seems to me it won't be long until this is real |
Jack sped along too.
And so did PaPa Dan.
I think one the kids favorite was the Jolly Days Exhibit.
Here they enjoyed ice skating...
... and ice fishing.
Some of us didn't get to enjoy the Snow Castle.

Dear Santa:
I would like a Monster's High Barbie,
and a Furreal Bunny.
And I would like a Doodle Bear.
And I, dear Santa would like.... um I don't know...
... a 32 GB iPod Touch. (sonofa!)
Next we boarded Egypt Air.
We drove a "took took" (Ella driving again, oh my).
No trip to Indy would be complete without driving an Indy Car.
We also got to ride the carousal, which was one of my favorite things to do as a kid too. It just makes you happy!
The absolute favorite part of my day, however, was the skinny mirror. I'm not lying. I'm wearing my bikini next time and standing in front of this mirror. In fact, I'm taking it to the beach with me.
Ok fine, it wasn't my favorite, but it was close.
The kids waited all day to ride the Yule Slide.
I just love Christmas time.
And I should have gone down this slide myself.
We had a fantastic time at the Children's museum. It wasn't just like I remembered, it was better!
