I know I've said it before on the blog, but my health and fitness journey began with a New Year's resolution way back in 2008. I was almost 30 pounds heavier than I am now and basically never been in a gym in my life. While I don't think I consciously called it a resolution, I definitely began on January 1st (or probably the 2nd) and was determined to take my body back after babies.
So while I'm not really one to make resolutions per se, I'm definitely all for trying something new come the new year. I'm definitely about setting goals to achieve throughout the year and this year I do have a few. Before I tell you about that, however, I will tell you about my one true resolution.
I have a really bad Diet Coke habit. I'm talking I usually drink AT LEAST four 12 ounce Diet Coke cans a day. If I go out to eat, I buy the largest size that's allowed and I usually refill it once while eating. So yeah, at least 48 ounces right there. Clearly I drink way too much and it needs to stop. While I don't think Diet Coke affects me negatively (in any OUTWARD way I can tell), I'm interested to see if quitting will have any positive effects. So yeah, I'm day one no Diet Coke. I'll let you know how it goes.
As for the goals. I really don't have many, but I'm serious about the ones I do have.
PR a 5K: I MUST, as in I can NOT put this off any longer, run a 5K and set a new PR. I haven't run a 5K for time since May of 2011. So yeah, I need to run a FAST 5K! I'm not even going to qualify my goal with a time, but it HAS to be a PR (i.e. less than 29:41). I want a fast and FLAT course and I want to get a new 5K PR.... and I WILL.
Do ONE unassisted Pull-up: Seems pretty easy doesn't it? Yeah well my upper body is so weak and I've got a lot of weight to pull-up. Ha! So yeah, I really want to work to be able to do one. I know once I get one pull-up the rest will come. I just want to be able to do it... and I WILL!
Compete in a half-iron distance triathlon: I really don't have any time goals for myself when it comes to this triathlon. I just want to finish knowing that I gave it my all-- both in training and the day of the race. Tracey and I will be racing the same race and hopefully doing a lot of our training together. I know she'll push me to be my best. I want to feel like I left everything out on the course and really feel proud of myself... and I WILL!
Master the double under: Another thing that seems like it should be so simple, but simply is NOT for me. A double under is jump roping where the rope passes under your feet two times per one jump. If you think it's easy, I challenge you to give it a try. It's really my nemesis and really even more so than the pull-up. I know why I can't do a pull-up. I can't because I'm not strong enough to pull my own body weight. There's no reason I can't master a double under. I should be able to do that... and I WILL!
Run a 2:00 Half Marathon: This is probably the loftiest of my goals, but I feel like if I can stay healthy I can realistically run a 2:00 Half at Buffalo Creek in October. Buffalo Creek is a flat and fast course. If there's anywhere I have a chance of meeting this goal, it's there. I've wanted to do this for many years and in 2013... I WILL!
And that's it people. 2 CrossFit related goals, 2 running goals and 1 major endurance goal. I don't know if I'm capable of all of these things, but I know you can't get anywhere without trying and in 2013... I WILL!
