My life right now is consumed by spring sports. Ella plays soccer (and is in dance), Jack plays soccer and Nicholas plays baseball and just finished up his hockey season. He can start right back up at hockey, but we usually wait until summer to sign up again. It's just not physically possible for us to get them everywhere they need to be.
Anyway, I do love watching my kids play sports. I truly do look forward to seeing them play and improve and just plain have fun.
Jack has come such a LONG LONG way from last year crying on the field. He counts down the days to his practices and games and he is definitely ready to go on the field.
He goes full speed the whole time and give 110% and I couldn't be more proud.
As a matter of a fact, Jack had the ONLY goal in his game on Saturday.
Don't get me wrong, I'm under no delusions, I understand this is 4 year old soccer, but I'm still allowed to be proud of my kid.
It doesn't matter to me if he scores 1 goal or 1000 as long as he is giving his best effort and I can tell you he IS.
I don't know if soccer is here to stay, but it's here for now and he's undoubtedly in love and that makes me happy.
It makes him happy too!
As for Nicholas. Oh my does that child make me proud. He continues to grow and learn every day. He might not be the best player on the team (ok so maybe he's one of them), but he's always giving it his best.
That's the thing about Nicholas, this boy has passion and it really shows. His coach is always talking about his effort and dedication and to me that means more than any home run.
Now don't get me wrong. I love when Nicholas rips a good one and gets a home run. It's so much better than a dinky single, but I don't love him any less for a base hit.
Nicholas was just selected by his team to represent the Braves in the MVP game (along with 2 other players). He will also be recognized as an academic all-star for earning ALL As in school.
So yes, his abilities and home runs are great, but it's the boy BEHIND the bat that makes his mama proud.
Nicholas isn't the only one tearing it up. Ella has really come into her own this year with soccer.
She really hustles and gives her best effort.
In the last 2 games she's scored 18 goals combined.
Again, I'm under no delusions and I realize my kids aren't super stars, but that doesn't keep me from beaming with pride over my little athletes.
I guess because I never played an organized sport, it's hard for me to imagine being so little and getting out there and kicking booty. When Ella is on the soccer field she beams with confidence and who wouldn't want that for their child?
So I'll keep signing them up and hauling them around even if I do have to "give up" all my Saturdays.
I know when these moments are gone, I will have given up a lot more than that!
