Nothing (but vacation) Can Keep a Runner Down
Posted on 16:22 by Unknown
I spend so much of my life working out and I like to think I'm generally not dogging it. For the past year (at least) I have generally worked out six days a week. If not six, then definitely five. I rarely skip a workout because I don't feel like it. I just go because I know I'll feel worse if I don't. Most of the time, however, I do enjoy working out. My workouts have become such a huge part of my life. I wear more workout clothes than "real" clothes, I have more sneakers than any other type of shoe and a sweaty bad and ponytail is generally part of my uniform. So right about now you're thinking, "yeah so, tell us something we dont already know". Well of of this is to tell you that during vacation I fell off the wagon. Mostly just te running wagon as I did do other workouts. Get this my blog friends. I ran a total of 2 miles during my 2 weeks of vacation. I could give you a list of excuses as to why not, but they would be just that -- excuses. The truth is you make time an effort if you REALLY want to do something. So I sat back quietly and asked myself, do I really want to run?". The answer was no. I didnt really want to run. The reasons are mermaid and range from: I preferred to ride my bike with my family to I didn't feel safe on the back country roads to I just felt lazy. No matter the reason(s) I don't much care. I've given myself permission to take a break an I can comfortably do so because I know when I get back home I'll get right back to it. Taking 2 weeks off from my marathon training plan won't kill me. I might have lost a little bit of speed or endurance but not enough to dramatically change my performance come rice day. So while other blogs out there might be writing posts about how to fit in your workout while on vacation, this is not one of them. No ma'am. I'm here to tell you to give yourself permission to take a break (if you want to). I wanted to take a break from running and to be honest I think I needed it. Now, however, vacation has ended an all the permissions I'd granted to myself have been lifted. Monday I'm hopping back on the wagon and tackling marathon training with a vengeance. After all nothing can keep a runner down (not for long anyway). This entire post was written while riding in the car ony iPhone so forgive all my typos and autocorrects.
