So today I kind of mapped out what races I want to do in 2013. My hope is that I can do one race a month, but it might be more or less in some months. I don't want to break the bank (more than I already do) so I'm trying to keep it relatively simple.
JANUARY:
This is simple. I NEED to find a 5k. I didn't even run one in 2012 and I'm so sick and tired of 29:29 being my 5k PR. We need to fix that.
FEBRUARY:
I'll be traveling to Austin with Tracey to run the Austin Half Marathon. Tracey is running the full. I've run the 1/2 once before, but I didn't race it. This year I want to give it a good effort and see what I can do on those hills!
MARCH:
I'll be doing the Shamrock Shuffle Half Marathon on March 16th. Tracey did this race last year and she WALKED one of the hills. Tracey.does.NOT.walk! I'm scared. If I die, who will take care of my kids. There's a less scary 8.1 mile race and 1/2 marathon at North Park in March, but Tracey said that's the easy way out. Damn!
APRIL:
Yesterday I applied for the lottery for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler. I'm not sure if I will get in, but it would be an awesome "tune up" for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon.
MAY:
Speaking of the Pittsburgh Half Marathon, I'll be running that race in May and I'm looking to do better than I did last year. Mainly however, I'd like to just have a lot of fun running and cheering for a lot of good friends.
JUNE:
In June I plan to ride the Bike MS - Escape to the Lake. This is a charity ride benefiting MS. I'll be signing up to ride 100 miles on day one and.... wait... hmm... I don't know how many miles it is on day two. It's called the MS 150 but I know it's really not 150 miles. I think day two is 60. Hmm. Tracey? This ride takes place at the beginning of June. Therefore, I have plenty of time to plan to do another event in June as well. I'm thinking The Dam Tri, which is an Olympic distance Triathlon.
JULY:
I'm really excited about my chosen event in July. I'm going to be riding in the RAIN ride. RAIN is Ride Across Indiana and that's just what you do. 160 miles from "coast" to Indiana "coast". I'm really looking forward to this ride as George is going to ride and so are my brother and my cousin. I'm hoping my dad will ride too. I know it will be tough, but I'm hoping it will be a good time.
*edited to add. I forgot the Morraine Tri. It's a sprint distance and I've done it before. It's fun! I will probably do this too.
AUGUST:
I'll probably sign up to do the Steeler's Gatorade 5K. It's usually held at the VERY end of August, near my birthday, but I haven't found a date for 2013 yet. I hope it will be a PR. Even if I run in January, I hope whatever time I get, I can improve upon it 7 months later. I may not be able to do this race based on what's to come in September.
SEPTEMBER:
September will be my biggest event of the year and something I have NEVER done before, but the beginning of a dream to one day become an Ironman. I will be competing in the Rev3 Half Ironman in Cedar Point, OH. That's 70.3 miles of racing consisting of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. All of my training and racing will be for THIS race. Doing a Half Ironman has been on the horizon for some time and I'm not putting it off any longer. 2013 is the year of the Half Ironman.
OCTOBER/NOVEMBER:
I still haven't found out from The ING New York City marathon what will become of me for next years race. As you all probably know, this year's marathon was cancelled due to Super Storm Sandy and I was registered and not able to run. Everyone is anticipating that this years entrants will be given guaranteed entry, but at this point I'm not so sure. I don't know what's going to happen, but I can tell you I'm not going to focus on Marathon training anyway. I'll find a way to run the marathon if I do, in fact, get granted entry, but I'm not going to focus on training for the marathon exclusively.
*edit to add
OMG I forgot The Buffalo Creek half marathon which WILL be my half marathon PR and hopefully my first sub 2:00!!!!!!
So there you have it folks. I think this year is the first year that I can honestly call the year of SWIM, BIKE, RUN. I've focused on running for so long and I'm really ready to do some other fun things. I think this is the perfect mix and I'm beyond excited to tackle everything I have planned. I hope you'll follow along as I continue on my swim, bike, run journey.
If you're following along in the Adventures of the Elf on the Shelf: Lulu (which I'm updating everyday so it will become a full list of all Lulu's adventures... click the link to see ALL the ideas) then here is what she was up to the past couple of days.
Lulu attempts a "face in the hole" and hid in the Lucky Charms box. The kids got a big kick out of this one. |
Lulu was very tired and took a snooze in the kleenex box with a tissue pillow and blankie. |
