Today my friend Lisa invited us over to make some Christmas cookies. It made me happy because I didn't get to have my cookie making party this year since we aren't living in our own home.
I think Lisa felt a bit sorry for me because she knows I really love to have the cookie party and she did a nice job making me feel like the Tirch kids didn't miss out on any tradition. Lisa was in charge of the sugar cut out cookies and I was in charge of the peanut butter blossoms.
Peanut butter blossoms are the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey kiss on top and they are one of the easiest cookies to have kids help with (in my opinion). I make the dough ahead of time and then let the kids go to town rolling the dough into balls and then in the sugar.
Kids are also incredibly good at the tedious task of unwrapping the kisses. Did you know you pull the white paper and the kiss opens up? I did NOT know that, but Nicholas did.
The kids' blossom cookies turned out GREAT.
Next up was the sugar cookies.
It's always fun for me to see the different approach kids take to making their cookies.
Nicholas was particularly careful in creative with his cookies this year. His really turned out VERY nice. I was impressed.
Ella was actually more carefree than I would have expected, but definitely enjoyed making her cookies.
Jack was also pretty particular about his work and also did a really great job. I was surprised that his cookies looked as good as they did and had such little sugar topping. Normally his are inedible with the amount of sugar on top, but not this year.
We had a great time spending the afternoon baking and playing with the McCarthys. Thanks Lisa, for hosting and helping keep our tradition alive.
